Information from third parties

- Referrals: if someone refers you to us, we may receive your name and contact info from them.
4. How we use your information

- Communicate with you: confirmations, follow-ups, scheduling, and updates about Selects.
- Reach out to potential partners: contact businesses we would like to feature or collaborate with.

- Legal compliance: meet our obligations, respond to lawful requests, and defend against claims.
5. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information for money.
We do share information with the following types of parties:
Service providers (sub-processors)
We use companies to run our infrastructure: hosting, database, email delivery, analytics, applicant tracking, customer support, and similar services. They process your data on our behalf, under contract, and only for the purposes we instruct. The current list is at selects.co/subprocessors.
Advertising partners
We work with Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and may work with Google and similar platforms to run advertising. This includes:
- Tracking visits and conversions on selects.co using tools like Meta Pixel and Google Analytics
- Building audiences of people likely to be interested in Selects
- Measuring how our ads perform
Under California and other state laws, some of this activity counts as "sharing personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising." You can opt out at any time. See Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information and Global Privacy Control below.
Legal and compliance
We may disclose information when:
- Required by law, subpoena, court order, or other valid legal process
- Necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Selects, our team, our partners, or the public
- Investigating fraud, abuse, or violation of our terms
Business transfers
If Selects or Mark Tao LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, financing, or similar transaction, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will give notice if your data moves to a new controller.
6. Cookies and tracking technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working, measure performance, and run our advertising. We group them like this:
| Category | Purpose | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keep the site working, such as session and security | Session cookies, CSRF tokens |
| Functional | Remember your preferences | Language, layout choices |
| Analytics | Help us understand site usage | Google Analytics |
| Advertising | Support ads and audience-building | Meta Pixel, Google Ads tags |
How to opt out:
- Browser controls: most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Check your browser's privacy settings.
- Global Privacy Control (GPC): if you enable GPC, we treat it as a valid opt-out of sale and sharing for the browser sending it. See globalprivacycontrol.org.
- Do Not Sell or Share: visit selects.co/do-not-sell to opt out of advertising-related sharing.
- Industry opt-outs: the Digital Advertising Alliance at aboutads.info/choices and the Network Advertising Initiative at youradchoices.com.
- Meta: facebook.com/settings/ads.
- Google: myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy.
Blocking cookies may limit features or break parts of the site.
7. Email marketing and business outreach
Newsletter and product email
If you sign up for our newsletter or other email content, we send what you subscribed to. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. We process unsubscribe requests within ten business days, as required by the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act.
Transactional and operational email
We send transactional messages tied to your interactions, such as application updates, replies to your messages, and scheduling confirmations. These are not marketing and do not include an unsubscribe link, but you can stop receiving them by closing your engagement with us or asking us to delete your data.
Business outreach
We reach out to businesses we would like to feature or partner with, using public business contact info. These messages comply with the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act: they identify themselves as outreach from Mark Tao LLC, include our mailing address, accurately describe the sender, and include a working unsubscribe link. We do not use harvested addresses or dictionary attacks.
How to opt out
- Click "unsubscribe" at the bottom of any email, or
- Email hello@selects.co with "Unsubscribe" in the subject line.
We honor unsubscribe requests for the email address that sent them. If multiple addresses are in use at one business, each can opt out independently.
8. SMS messaging
We send SMS only if you give us your phone number and explicitly opt in to receive text messages from us, for example in an application form or when subscribing to a service that includes texts. We do not send unsolicited marketing texts. We do not share phone numbers with third parties for their own marketing.
To stop, reply STOP to any message. To get help, reply HELP. Message and data rates may apply. Frequency varies by program.
9. Data retention
We keep different categories of data for different periods. As a general guide:
| Category | Retention |
|---|---|
| Newsletter subscribers | Until you unsubscribe, then 30 days for log purposes |
| Job applicants | 12 months after the role closes, then deleted |
| Lead form submissions | 12 months from receipt |
| Business outreach contacts | Until you unsubscribe, or for 24 months without engagement, whichever comes first |
| Active partners and customers | For the duration of the relationship, plus 7 years for tax and legal records |
| Analytics data | 14 months in identifiable form, then aggregated |
| Server logs | 90 days |
| Support and correspondence | 3 years from last contact |
| Backups | 30 to 90 days, then overwritten |
You can ask us to delete your data sooner. See Your privacy rights.
10. Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information: encryption in transit using HTTPS, access controls limiting who on our team can see what, vendor due diligence on every service provider, and prompt patching of known vulnerabilities.
No method is perfectly secure. Email is particularly vulnerable. Do not send sensitive info by email if you can avoid it. If we discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you as required by law.
11. Children's privacy
Selects is built for adults. Our services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email hello@selects.co and we will delete it.
12. Your privacy rights
U.S. general rights
Regardless of which U.S. state you live in, we offer you the ability to:
- Know what personal information we have about you
- Get a copy of your personal information in a portable format
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your personal information
- Opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information
- Opt out of profiling for decisions that significantly affect you (we do not currently engage in such profiling)
California residents
California provides the strongest set of rights, through the CCPA and CPRA. Full details, including the statutory categories of personal information we collect, sources, business purposes, third-party categories, sensitive personal information, and additional California rights, are at selects.co/privacy/california.
Other state residents
The following states have their own comprehensive privacy laws. Each broadly overlaps with California's. If you live in one of these states, the noted additional protections apply.
| State | Law | Key additions for residents |
|---|---|---|
| Virginia | VCDPA | Right to appeal a denied request |
| Colorado | CPA | Universal Opt-Out Mechanism (we honor GPC), right to appeal |
| Connecticut | CTDPA | Opt-in consent required before processing sensitive data |
| Utah | UCPA | Opt-out model for sale and targeted advertising |
| Oregon | OCPA | Right to a list of specific third parties (not just categories) |
| Texas | TDPSA | Opt-in consent for sensitive data; right to appeal |
| Montana | MCDPA | Similar to Virginia, with appeal right |
| Minnesota | MCDPA-MN | Profiling transparency; right to question profiling decisions |
| Delaware | DPDPA | Opt-in consent for sensitive data; broad scope |
| Iowa | ICDPA | Opt-out model, narrower scope than CCPA |
| New Jersey | NJDPA | Opt-in consent for sensitive data |
| New Hampshire | NHCDPA | Similar to Virginia |
| Nebraska | NDPA | Similar to Texas |
| Maryland | MODPA | Strict data minimization; no sale of sensitive personal information |
If your state is not listed and you believe you have a comparable right under your local law, write to us anyway. We extend these rights to anyone in the United States who asks.
13. How to exercise your rights
Email hello@selects.co with the right or rights you want to exercise. Please include:
- The right or rights you are invoking
- The email address you have used with us, or another identifier
- Enough information to verify your identity
We respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you and may extend by another 45 days.
Authorized agents. You may use an authorized agent, such as a privacy service or an attorney, by sending us their authorization in writing. We may still need to verify directly with you.
Appeal. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our response or by emailing hello@selects.co with "Appeal" in the subject line. We respond to appeals within 45 days. If we still decline, we will tell you how to contact your state Attorney General.
Non-discrimination. We will not deny service, charge different prices, or provide different quality to you because you exercised your privacy rights.
14. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track
Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a browser-level signal indicating you want to opt out of sale and sharing. We honor GPC for the browser sending it: we treat it as a valid opt-out request and apply it to that browser session.
Do Not Track has no industry consensus on implementation. We do not respond to DNT specifically. We do respond to GPC.
15. International visitors
Selects is intended for U.S. residents. Our infrastructure is hosted in the United States, and any data you give us is processed in the United States. If you visit from outside the U.S., your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
16. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices or applicable laws change. The "Effective" and "Last updated" dates at the top reflect the current version. If we make material changes, we will notify active users by email or by a prominent notice on selects.co before the changes take effect.
Earlier versions are archived. To request a prior version, email hello@selects.co.
